STC SAWA RECHARGE RIYADH SA

I'm hoping that nasty headline might draw in some other people who've had $80 charges for Saudi Arabia cell phone service show up on their bank statements recently.

I caught four $80 transactions to STC SAWA RECHARGE RIYADH SA today before they were posted. And I'm not the only one seeing these: check this thread if you haven't already. Here too.

Handy notes: This can't be a World of Warcraft thing, cause I don't know WoW from Pong (although I did recently swipe the old debit card at GameStop). Online merchants I've done business with include GoDaddy, PowWeb, NetFlix, iTunes, Beatport, TracFone, and Ohio.net.

Post your clues below.

Have you applied for a mortgage loan lately? I was hit recently by this scam and I think my information was taken this way.

2 charges today from "STC SAWA RECHARGE RIYADH SA" for 79.98 each within 2 minutes of each other.

This was done on my Paypal Debit Mastercard.

.. I also used my card at GoDaddy recently.

Called paypal, they cancelled one of the charges, and I will have to dispute the other if it goes through. It's currently in the "Pending" state.

Seems a ton of people are being hit by this company.

I just sent this email to Godaddy for them to investigate. If you also submit a request for investigation, it may help catch the culprit.

here is the godaddy support email link: www.godaddy.com/gdshop/support_ask_question.asp

I addressed it to Investigations Departement under the category "Other"

"Hi,

Yesterday I purchased 200 names and transfered 8 names in 2 different transactions.

I had to input my credit card info manually, as I haven't updated it in the "cards on file".

I believe there is someone in your organization that is stealing credit card numbers, as there are 2 transactions for 79.98 each today on my card from a company in Saudi Arabia... specifically "STC SAWA RECHARGE RIYADH SA"

I am not the only person that used godaddy recently that has encountered the same incident. You may check this link to see what I mean.
http://www.saintkansas.com/2007/07/stc-sawa-recharge-riyadh-sa.html

I understand you can't do anything about the transactions from this other company, (I'm working on that with my credit card company), but please investigate whoever had access to my cc number yesterday.

There are also numerous others that this has happened to, I'm just not sure if they also used godaddy recently.

Thank you,
David Sawyer"

I had this happen to me today!! Pay Pal is having me fax in a sheet signed with the info on it. I have NOT used GoDaddy, but I did shop on eBay, and used my pay pal two other places online. I did have someone ask me if they could email me, and they asked for my email and now I am wondering if that is how they hacked my info or what......

2 charges for 79.98 within seconds of each other.

I have not applied for ANY loans lately either

The MOST common link in everyone else I ahve read and spoken with is PAY PAL Business Premier Debit cards.

Or the Cards were connected to a Pay Pal account...

Besides that, very few of us have bought from the same places.

I just saw 7 charges for $80 each on my bussiness card/debit card.. which happens to be linked to my Paypal account??!!

My bank is disputing them of course and issuing a new card...

I dont use GoDaddy..so this is probably a Paypal issue... thats scary.

This just happened to me today on my business chaeck card... the typical $80 + my bank's $2 something charge for foriegn currency.

There a few other possibilites, but I use the card so rarely that it seems to point to data stolen from some online merchant.

I don't store my card very many places if I can help it. The charges show as going to me card directly, not through PayPal. I use PayPal to buy my iTunes so they don't have my card number.

So, the common thread is starting to look like maybe it's PayPal who's got the leak.

I have been dealing with this issue since August 7th. I noticed four unauthorized debits of $80 each from SAWA STC Recharge, which totaled $320. I immediately reported this to the card company, Netspend. This card is a pre-paid debit card, which I initially thought was a good idea because it allowed me to keep a separate card with a very low balance which I could use for on-line purchases, on-line bill pay, etc. I also felt if I kept the card balance very low then potential issues such as this would be easier to resolve.
The account was frozen and I was issued a new card.
I was told by a Netspend representative to write a letter disputing the charges and was instructed to fax it to the fraud department. I faxed this letter per their instructions on August 10th.
By August 22nd I had received no communication from Netspend so I called them. I was told I would receive a call from a representative within 10 business days from the date the letter was faxed.
The representative assured me that someone would call me by the end of the week.
This did not happen.

On August 27th I called them and was told by a representative of their company a credit would be issued to my account the next day (Tuesday the 28th) in the total of $320.
The next day no such credit appeared.
I called the following day and was told the same thing, a credit would appear the next morning in the amount of $320.
This did not happen.
I decided to start recording the calls. I posted the first call on my most recent podcast "Big Phil's Love Parade", the direct link is here: http://media.libsyn.com/media/bigphil/show_97.mp3
