KSL Investigates: Mother seeks change to law after 5-day-old baby treated for CO poisoning

SALT LAKE CITY — State lawmakers may be poised to change a law banning local city and county governments from requiring landlords to install carbon monoxide detectors in older apartments. Utah is the only state in the nation with this type of law on the books, and the lack of a CO detector in one Provo apartment nearly cost a young family, the Taylors, their lives. In January, the Taylors used a gas furnace in their apartment to help keep their 5-day-old baby warm. But on their second night home from the hospital, Bethany Taylor, her husband Kendall and her mother-in-law all felt sick. Jane, too, was acting different. "My main concern was (Jane) was really sleepy and wasn’t eating and that’s how I knew that something was wrong with her because she’s a brand new baby, she’s hungry," Bethany Taylor said. To mark the momentous occasion, his proud pops recreated the music video for his single “Icon.” He shared the video to Instagram late Tuesday: Will Smith donned similar clothes for the parody clip as his son did for the original. How This Salt Lake City Bar Reached Customers Before Opening Its Doors

Utah isn’t a state known for drinking. In fact it ranks dead-last on per-capita alcohol consumption. But the founders of Water Witch Bar, a craft cocktail spot and pioneer of Salt Lake City’s emerging bar scene, have managed to make a name for themselves and help develop a fast-growing community of local bars and restaurants before even opening. Sean Neves, Matt Pfohl and Scott Gardner met in 2012, when the then hired-gun bartenders were invited to teach a class about cocktail techniques. They started talking about eventually opening their own space but, like many small business owners, they didn’t immediately have the funds to make it happen. Over four years, they planned their opening and took jobs that buoyed their status as local leaders in the craft cocktail scene.
